about

Mr. J’ai- At least three years ago, I sent L’Dai a gospel record that I heard in church on Sunday. I wanted him to play with it and see if we could pull any elements out to create a rap song around it. Cyhi the Prince had a song where he did an interpolation of I Know I Have Changed. That is one of the hardest rap songs I’ve ever heard because he tells his story of his journey and how God changed his life. Plus it was one of his mother’s favorite songs. So, I wanted to do something similar but really keep it in the gospel realm (since I’ve done a couple gospel rap songs before). Like I said, the beat has been done for a while and the verses were even older. An email comes with some of our songs and this one was in the pack with a verse from L’Dai. It was nice but I was confused because I was waiting to record it for my solo project next year. Once again the producer forced me to finish a song. I figured it was a sign that I’ve waited long enough and people need to hear it. Gospel songs are meant to inspire, heal, and bless people. Thankfully, I was comfortable enough with Peter to record the track. I used the original paper I wrote on and the blue ink seeped through both sides of the paper. I was in the booth struggling to see the words. It all worked out and a huge weight was lifted off of my spirit. I wrote the hook a few days before. The lines basically describe all of the angels we have surrounding us no matter where we go. This song is truly the heart of our album and I’m happy we are releasing it.

L’Daialogue- This track is probably one of the more heavier tracks off the project. From the time MiZUnderstatistic produced it until we finished the record, so lost so many people in our own respective circles. Aunts, uncles...shoot, J’ai’s nephew passed. A DJ, Black N Mild from New Orleans passed recently. Just so many people. So, the record carries a different tone to me. Almost like the record kept becoming more and more relevant as we moved forward in the recording of the record. I grew up in the church so my basis is gospel. It’s not a stretch to tap into the spiritual side and speak on the real. So, that’s what we did.
