Mr. J’ai-This was the first verse I recorded at my new studio home with engineer Peter Santos. I wanted to impress him and I nailed it on the first take (I reworked the old lyrics; it was a breeze). 15 minutes later we were on to the next song. My Resume 2020 has a remixed beat but the original song was done around 2004 or 2005 at the Xavier University LLC dorm. L’Dai had his equipment setup on the vanity inside of the bathroom. I remember this like yesterday. He was in there cooking beats and all. Back then, he told me to rap about all of my accolades at the time as compared to rappers who didn’t do street promotions, book shows, and etc. At that time, I’d just completed three consecutive years of The Mic Check Battle Series (six cities), a tv show, mixtapes, the Effortless album, concerts, and signing my first solo recording contract. Many of the same issues are still relevant in the rap industry. It was only appropriate to start the album with this cut. Then, we kept Mellowhype’s original verse for nostalgia.
